I've always known I'm part Apache (Plains, to be exact) but I never knew how to connect to the culture the colonizers did a horrifically good job of erasing. My mother doesn't really talk about it much, and my sister and I weren't brought up learning both sides of our story - at least not in detail - just the whiteness thrust upon us by those who came to steal our land. My grandmother chose to list herself as white so her children wouldn't be bullied in school, and the erasure continued.
As an adult, I have always felt that piece of me was incomplete, and I have been searching for years for something to get me really involved. Not anymore. Now, I make jewelry, and I'm so excited to start sharing it with you (and taking orders, if wanted) soon!
I've already designed a couple of my own bracelets, finished one other than clasps, and it has been invigorating. It's like a part of me I didn't even know was missing found its way back home.
